应用： Geneticin® 选择抗生素是庆大霉素相关的氨基糖苷类 (1-3)，在分子遗传学实验中用作筛选抗生素 (4,5)。 对细菌 (1,2)、酵母 (3,4)、高等植物 (5) 和哺乳动物细胞 (6-8) 以及原生动物和寄生虫 (9,10) 有毒性。 其抗性基因是显性的，位于转座子 Tn601（903）和 Tn5 上。 Tn5 上的基因被称为氨基糖苷磷酸转移酶 3´ (II) 或 APH (3´)II，而 Tn601 上的基因被称为氨基糖苷磷酸转移酶 3fi(I) 或 APH (3´)I。这些基因源自细菌，但可在真核细胞中表达。 将这些基因中的任何一个导入细胞均可以使细胞具有 Geneticin® 筛选抗生素抗性，从而能在含有 Geneticin® 筛选抗生素的培养基中生长。
